One of the Beautiful place in Montalban, Rizal THE "Wawa Dam"

               Wawa Dam is an old water reservoir found in Rodriguez, Rizal




History:

Local legends tell that Bernardo Carpio, a figure on our Philippine mythology had a strength that was similar to Hercules. He was said to be trapped in between two great rocks in the Mountains of Rodriguez, Rizal during the Spanish Colonization. The local citizen there says that his hands or feet are imprinted on the rocks at Wawa Dam.

In 1901, the Americans constructed the Wawa Dam as a reservoir and pumping facility, but during the Japanese occupation it became a battle field where a lot of Japanese died on the reservoir when the Americans retook it.

One of the caves in Wawa was claimed as a Katipunan Heritage site. It said that the first cry of freedom of the Philippine Revolutionary Group KKK (Kataastaasang Kagalanggalangan Katipunan ng mga anak ng bayan) took place in the Pamitinan Cave.

Wawa Dam is a Wonderful place for site seeing, that's why many Tourisms came here to see the Beauty of Wawa Dam. It is truly amazing the Beauty it possess, like a goddess is living there. 
But the dam is far from amusing. It has a grim history. The locals believe that its nangunguha, it takes a human life. Its victims were usually first born males. Survivors claimed that a strong force was pulling them down while swimming even on shallow parts of the river. A local television documentary named the supernatural force as Pandora, a river fairy who has been raped by a mortal and has sought revenge by drowning her unsuspecting victims.
